Grand Opening Ceremony of the Mt. Rich Pre-Primary School.
Friday November 9th 2007, St. George’s Prime Minister, Dr. The Right. Honourable Keith Mitchell, together with other Ministers of Government was present at the opening of the Mt. Rich Pre Primary school on Thursday November 8th 2007.
The School is deemed to be the first of its type in Grenada as it incorporates many state of the art designs.
The Estimated cost of the project is $EC 792,569.000 and was funded by the Government of Grenada (GOG) in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Canadian Fund for International Development (CIDA). It was executed by the Basic Needs Trust Funds under the Ministry of Works.
This project was the ‘brainchild’ of the Hon. Anthony Boatswain who first saw the dire need for the improvement of the facility whilst he was still the manager of IDC in 1998. At that time, the pre-school was housed at the Community Centre which was also used as a dancehall. The building was old and dilapidated and lacked toilet facilities.
Recognizing the urgent need to improve the educational standard, Minister Boatswain initiated the building of a pre-fabricated structure which was later destroyed by Hurricane Ivan. As part of the Government’s Build Back Better Initiative this state of the art project was commissioned. Thursday’s Opening is expected to significantly improve the conditions for young children in the Mt. Rich and surrounding areas.
