Two students have been awarded the title Grenada Island Scholar for the year 2005-2006; they are Ms. Anika L.F. Harford and Ms. Cathisha Williams, both past students of the St. Joseph's Convent, St. George’s .
Ms. Williams was identified on December 4th by the Caribbean Examinations Council as Grenada ’s top student in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination for 2005/2006 combined.
Subsequently to the announcement, the Ministry of Education received a query, challenging the Council’s decision and requesting a review of the selection. The query stated that Anika Harford had the best grades overall. The Ministry considered the query and sought the guidance of CXC.
The Council in its response stated that Anika Harford’s 2006 registration was inconsistent with that for the 2005, and therefore her records could not be merged.
At a request of the Ministry of Education , the Council considered Anika Harford in the review and submitted a revised Top Awards list to the Ministry which named Anika Harford in First Position and Cathisha Williams in Second Position.
The Ministry of Education encourages all students to adhere to the Council’s policy with regards to registration. Candidates should ensure that the name used at all sittings is consistent. Candidates who register with different personal details from one sitting to another will be treated as different candidates by the Examination Processing System.
The Island Scholar Award is awarded in accordance with Part X, Section 166- 173 of the Education Act No. 21 of 2002.
