INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY 2008

St. George’s, Grenada, September 3, 2008_The Ministry of Education and the Grenada National Commission for UNESCO remains interested in supporting activities that would lead to sustainable outcomes for improved Literacy in Grenada.

This year, International Literacy Day (ILD) will be celebrated on Monday September 8th, 2008, with specific focus on the vital relationship between literacy and health; which is also the thematic emphasis of the 2007- 2008 biennium of the United Literacy Decade (UNLD). The slogan collaboratively chosen for International Literacy Day 2008 is “Literacy, the best remedy”.

Schools in Grenada are being encouraged to decide on events or activities that can be undertaken in celebration of International Literacy Day. Activities planned should be developed with specific emphasis on linking Literacy, epidemics and communicable diseases e.g.; HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
